Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

RIIBHD303D - Conduct long hole drilling

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare drilling site

  1. Access, interpret and apply drilling documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  2. Plan and prepare work activities to meet drilling requirements
  3. Receive, interpret and clarify shift change over details and review historical information
  4. Select and wear correct personal protective equipment
  5. Identify, manage and/or report hazards and potential risks according to the work plan
  6. Inspect and assess site conditions to determine if scaling is required and take action according to site requirements
  7. Place visible orientation marks to drill plan according to site procedures
  8. Ensure auxiliary services are available
  9. Erect physical barricades and signs and/or safety provisions to prevent unauthorised access
  10. Identify and clearly mark butts/misfires according to site procedures
  11. Ensure area is well ventilated using dust suppression and extraction methods before entry into work area
  12. Conduct equipment pre-start checks to insure equipment is safe and ready to use
