Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

RIIEGS306D - Prepare drill site

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare for drill site preparation

  1. Access, interpret and apply drill site preparation documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  2. Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm the drill site layout plan to confirm the location, size and configuration of the proposed drill site
  3. Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  4. Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work activities
  5. Establish communication system and protocols
  6. Carry out plant and equipment pre-start checks

Create access to drill site

  1. Identify existing tracks and use for entry to drill site
  2. If necessary, create new tracks which minimises water flows and erosion by following the natural contours of the land
  3. Create new tracks to drill site which minimise the clearing of vegetation by avoiding large trees and preserving root stocks
  4. Raise blades to a minimum of 150mm when using machinery to prepare access blade
  5. Cut or trim larger trees if unavoidable
  6. Stockpile or windrow cleared vegetation for use during site rehabilitation
