Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient performance of intermediate rigging operations including:

conducting risk assessment and implementing controls

correctly applying and using all rigging and associated equipment

maintaining written rigging records

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the performance of intermediate rigging operations that meet all of the required outcomes including:

checks and verifies work activity with client, load designer and others

communicating hazards and determining elimination or control of hazards

using a range of communication techniques and systems to convey instruction or information to others

provides end of work handover to relevant personnel

demonstrates completion of performing intermediate rigging operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

writing a preliminary rigging plan which must include the following points in detail:

confirmed details of rigging requirement

confirmed dimensions

site access and egress

suitability and availability of materials

tools and equipment

identification of potential hazards

control measures

identification of site coordination requirements

unless otherwise specified, rigging is to conform with the requirements of any relevant National Certification and/or Standards
