Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

SIFCBCR007 - Dig graves using machinery

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Conduct grave excavation and shoring.

  1. Determine gravedigging requirement according to work requirements, risk assessment and relevant legislation.
  2. Locate appropriate gravesite according to cemetery map or plan and physical location.
  3. Select and prepare personal protective equipment.
  4. Assess grave shoring requirements.
  5. Dig grave using machinery and appropriate tools and equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and dimensions of coffin or casket.
  6. Apply workplace procedures for safe storage of displaced earth or removal from site.
  7. Undertake progressive grave shoring requirements using a safe and appropriate shoring method.
  8. Maintain above and below ground communication with other team members.
