Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Instructions to Assessors

Evidence Guide

The evidence guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the performance criteria, required skills and knowledge, range statement and the Assessment Guidelines for the Training Package.

Overview of assessment

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Evidence of the ability to:

allocate and monitor resources for multiple tours or activities to meet profitability, efficiency and service needs

cope with time pressures and other work constraints that apply to the resource allocation role, including for the application of contingency management skills

demonstrate knowledge of the legal and safety requirements that impact on resource allocation in the relevant context.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure use of:

real or simulated tours or activities for which resources can be allocated

operational, reservations and sales data on which resource allocation is based

current information and communications technology used for resource allocation.

Method of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:

review of allocation documentation and reports prepared by the individual for particular tours or activities

use of case studies to assess ability to allocate resources for specific operating circumstances

written or oral questioning to assess knowledge of safety and legal requirements and the key organisational issues to be considered in resource allocation

review of portfolios of evidence and thirdparty workplace reports of onthejob performance by the individual.

Guidance information for assessment

The assessor should design integrated assessment activities to holistically assess this unit with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role, for example:

SITXHRM401 Roster staff.

Required Skills and Knowledge

Required skills

communication skills to:

liaise with others on resource requirements

provide and seek regular feedback on efficiency of resource allocation

critical thinking skills to assess and respond to potentially complex and competing operational, profitability and service priorities

read and interpret tour information and customer data

prepare wide ranging operational information in established formats including rosters, resource schedules and operational itineraries

numeracy skills to:

calculate costs within a predetermined budget

planning and organising skills to coordinate and schedule multiple operational resources

problem-solving skills to develop and implement resource contingency plans

technology skills to work with resource allocation systems.
