Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Assessment of competency must comply with the assessment requirements of the relevant maritime regulations

Assessment of this unit must be undertaken within relevant marine authority approved and audited arrangements by a registered training organisation:

As a minimum, assessment of knowledge must be conducted through appropriate written/oral examinations, and

1. GENERAL CONTEXT

within a defined range of operations and routine procedures, with responsibility for own outputs and some responsibility for others in achieving the specified quality and quantity of outcomes

the conduct of routine procedures for the manoeuvring of a vessel during normal operations and in heavy weather conditions and the application of solutions to a defined range of typical manoeuvring situations and problems
