Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

TLIB3006 - Carry out inspection of vehicles designed to carry special loads

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Check vehicle

  1. Job hazards are identified and required action is taken to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards
  2. Visual check of internal and external condition of vehicle is carried out in accordance with workplace procedures
  3. Pre-operational inspections and checks of vehicle tyres, suspension, fluid levels and other critical features are carried out to ensure conformance with road safety standards
  4. Associated equipment is tested to ensure it functions correctly to manufacturer specifications
  5. Post start-up and shut-down checks are carried out after engine is started to identify possible engine or electrical problems
  6. Warning systems (instruments and gauges) are checked to ensure they are operational
  7. Vehicle-monitoring device is logged on/off in accordance with manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures, as required
