Assessment Template
generate a spreadsheet for marking this unit in a classroom environment. Put student names in the top row and check them off as they demonstrate competenece for each of the unit's elements and performance criteria.
Assessment Matrix
a slightly different format than the assessment template. A spreadsheet with unit names, elements and performance criteria in separate columns. Put assessment names in column headings to track which performance criteria each one covers. Good for ensuring that you've covered every one of the performance criteria with your assessment instrument (all assessement tools together).
Wiki Markup
mark up the unit in a wiki markup codes, ready to copy and paste into a wiki page. The output will work in most wikis but is designed to work particularly well as a Wikiversity learning project.

Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions.

1. Prepare for drying

1.1 Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel.

1.2 Select appropriate personal protective and other equipment and use in line with manufacturer's recommendations.

1.3 Identify and obtain type and quantity of softwood to be dried from conversion process.

1.4 Plan drying process in line with work order.

2. Load and control kiln conditions

2.1 Assess racks visually to ensure consistent drying requirements for timber and adjust as required.

2.2 Measure moisture content and routinely compare with anticipated levels in line with organisational procedures.

2.3 Complete pre start-up equipment checks to ensure operational effectiveness.

2.4 Load kiln with racks selected for processing and report to appropriate personnel.

2.5 Position baffles and blankets in line with manufacturer’s instructions.

2.6 Adjust and check kiln control settings regularly in line with drying schedules and organisational safety procedures.

2.7 Follow emergency shutdown procedures when alarm is triggered.

3. Unload kiln and process softwood

3.1 Identify drying end point and make kiln safe for entry.

3.2 Open kiln and identify moisture content of processed softwood.

3.3 Remove moisture probes and baffles from timber.

3.4 Direct and move softwood to storage or processing operations in line with organisational procedures.

3.5 Identify sub-standard material and re-process or direct for lower value usage.

3.6 Keep work area clean and clear of debris in line with organisational safety procedures.

3.7 Identify routine processing and equipment faults and resolve or report to appropriate personnel.
