Put assessment names in column headings to track which performance criteria each one covers. Good for ensuring that you've covered every one of the performance criteria with your assessment instrument (all assessement tools together).

Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions.

1. Prepare for pressing

1.1 Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel.

1.2 Select personal protective equipment and check for operational effectiveness.

1.3 Obtain type and quantity of chips, flakes or fibre for pressing.

1.4 Select pressing process in line with organisational procedures.

2. Press material

2.1 Use equipment in line with organisational safety procedures, manufacturer’s instructions and environmental protection practices.

2.2 Complete pre start-up equipment checks to ensure operational effectiveness.

2.3 Set press cycle times, pressures, temperatures and product parameters for production requirements.

2.4 Monitor pressed material and adjust position, feed rate, mat and press conditions accordingly.

2.5 Complete unload and reload cycles in line with organisational procedures.

2.6 Assess pressed material and thickness changes regularly and adjust former and press set-up to produce quality formed materials.

2.7 Check pressed material production regularly to ensure conformity with size requirements and work order.

3. Unload material

3.1 Open press in line with organisational safety procedures.

3.2 Separate material and forming equipment and remove from press using unloading equipment.

3.3 Load material into cooling receiver, trim check and unload.

3.4 Test material samples to confirm compliance with industry standards and check for defects.

3.5 Dispose of sub-standard material in line with environmental protection practices.

3.6 Transfer finished material for further processing in line with organisational procedures.

4. Shut down and clean equipment

4.1 Coordinate shutdown with other line operators in line with organisational safety procedures.

4.2 Strip and clean blending, press and handling equipment in line with manufacturer’s instructions and environmental protection practices.

4.3 Check and clean press bars or stops, plates and screens.

4.4 Keep machine clear of dust and debris in line with organisational safety procedures.

4.5 Record and report production outcomes and equipment faults to appropriate personnel.
