Unit Description

Assessment Tool
an assessor resource that builds a framework for writing an assessment tool
Assessment Template
generate a spreadsheet for marking this unit in a classroom environment. Put student names in the top row and check them off as they demonstrate competenece for each of the unit's elements and performance criteria.
Assessment Matrix
a slightly different format than the assessment template. A spreadsheet with unit names, elements and performance criteria in separate columns. Put assessment names in column headings to track which performance criteria each one covers. Good for ensuring that you've covered every one of the performance criteria with your assessment instrument (all assessement tools together).

1. Determine the client's communication aid requirements using a Therapist's prescription

1.1 Using the Therapist's prescription confirm that all required information has been provided

1.2 Discuss requirements with client and where possible the relevant health professional

1.3 Ensure familiarity with software setups for commonly used assistive technology systems

1.4 Ensure familiarity with hardware/firmware setups for commonly used assistive technology

2. Select communication aid

2.1 Use approved selection criteria to select communication aid

2.2 Manufacture and/or modify communication aid to meet client requirements

2.3 Assess communication aid for operational competency

2.4 Document specifications for modification, installation and maintenance in accordance with organisation policies and procedures

3. Install communication aid

3.1 Select appropriate materials and/or components for the installation and/or modification of the communication aid

3.2 Install communication aidusing hand tools and/or machinery in accordance with occupational health and safety requirements, relevant standards and manufacturers' specifications.

3.3 Arrange to trial the communication aid with the client in accordance with organisation policies and procedures

3.4 Program the communication aid to client's requirements in consultation with therapist and according to manufacturer's instructions

3.5 Mount the aid using appropriate supports.

3.6 Provide power supply adaptations

3.7 Give client clear and precise information about proper use, maintenance and function of the device and/or its modifications

4. Maintain communication devices

4.1 Diagnose communication aid and computer faults at user level

4.2 Diagnose AAC device faults using appropriate diagnostic tools

4.3 Identify AAC system faults and rectify at a module level
