1. Plan and prepare for aided rescue

1.1 Access, interpret and apply aided rescue to endangered personnel documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant

1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements

1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures

1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities

1.5 Interpret alarms and indicators to determine the type, cause and severity of the hazard/situation

1.6 Identify, establish and maintain communication systems with other personnel during the emergency

2. Assess incident scene and plan rescue strategy

2.1 Obtain, interpret and confirm incident information and data and determine the hazards involved in the rescue operation

2.2 Determine the locations of endangered mine personnel

2.3 Identify the best route and method of travel to the location of mine personnel

2.4 Identify and determine the best location for a fresh air base

2.5 Establish and maintain communication with emergency control personnel and fresh air base

2.6 Test and check emergency equipment

2.7 Test the mine atmosphere and determine if it is irrespirable

2.8 Identify and obtain the required personal protective equipment and breathing apparatus

2.9 Assess the situation and select the safest and most effective extrication method

2.10Assess threats/dangers to mine personnel and rescuers

2.11Locate and access emergency breathing apparatus caches

2.12Identify the need for, and organise, additional rescue resources and equipment

2.13Refer to the mine plan and identify escape route and alternative escape route from the incident scene to fresh air base

2.14Clarify and confirm the rescue strategy

3. Extricate and evacuate to fresh air

3.1 Isolate mine services and secure incident site for safe entry

3.2 Assess physical and emotional conditions of mine personnel, administer emergency First Aid and provide support where necessary

3.3 Put on and test the breathing apparatus

3.4 Extricate mine personnel from entrapment

3.5 Evacuate from incident scene, following escape strategy, by the established or alternative escape route

3.6 Follow determined route of travel at optimum travel rate

3.7 Continuously monitor the mine atmosphere and environmental conditions

3.8 Evaluate the need for, locate and retreat to, a place of safety

3.9 Build barricade/s to protect personnel

3.10Maintain communication with emergency control and fresh air base personnel

3.11Continue to monitor physical and emotional condition of mine workers and other rescue team members and provide support

3.12Monitor air/oxygen usage and adjust rate of travel, where necessary

3.13Ensure efficient changeover/refill of self-rescuer/breathing apparatus

4. Participate in post-incident debrief

4.1 Provide details of rescue to relevant personnel

4.2 Participate in a debrief

4.3 Process written records or reports

4.4 Evaluate the need for, and refer mine personnel and self for voluntary counselling
