Unit Description

Assessment Tool
an assessor resource that builds a framework for writing an assessment tool
Assessment Template
generate a spreadsheet for marking this unit in a classroom environment. Put student names in the top row and check them off as they demonstrate competenece for each of the unit's elements and performance criteria.
Assessment Matrix
a slightly different format than the assessment template. A spreadsheet with unit names, elements and performance criteria in separate columns. Put assessment names in column headings to track which performance criteria each one covers. Good for ensuring that you've covered every one of the performance criteria with your assessment instrument (all assessement tools together).
Wiki Markup
mark up the unit in a wiki markup codes, ready to copy and paste into a wiki page. The output will work in most wikis but is designed to work particularly well as a Wikiversity learning project.

Observation Checklist

A form for students to assess thier current skill levels against each of the unit's performance criteria. Cut and paste into a web document or print and distribute in hard copy.
Moodle Outcomes

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes of a unit of competency.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the required skills and knowledge section and the range statement. Assessment of performance is to be consistent with the Evidence Guide.

1. Prepare for search and rescue.

1.1. Assess the situation and identify potential hazards and risks to self and others.

1.2. Identify a search and or rescue method suitable to the situation according to contextual issues, relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

1.3. Select equipment and resources required to perform identified search and rescue according to the situation.

1.4. Define the possible and probable search areas according to available information.

1.5. Develop a response plan and communicate to relevant persons.

2. Carry out a search.

2.1. Establish communication processes and promulgate contingency plans to all involved.

2.2. Conduct search methodically, using appropriate search techniques according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

3. Carry out a rescue.

3.1. Apply rescue techniques according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

3.2. Negotiate or avoid hazards and risks safely according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

3.3. Determine ambulatory status of an injured person and construct an emergency evacuation structure as required resources.

3.4. Monitor the injured person's condition and record actions taken according to organisational policies and procedures.

3.5. Assess situation to determine need for self evacuation or external assistance.

3.6. Minimise risk of further injury to injured person, according to organisational policies and procedures.

3.7. Advise party members to refer media enquiries to a nominated spokesperson, where required.

4. Seek outside assistance.

4.1. Identify situations requiring outside assistance.

4.2. Identify search groups and agencies and initiate the steps to alert them.

4.3. Implement procedures for handing over a search and rescue to relevant authorities and agencies according to organisational policies and procedures.

5. Evaluate search and rescue.

5.1. Evaluate relevant aspects of the search and rescue.

5.2. Identify improvements for future search and rescue situations.
