Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare
   • Workplace procedures for the assessment and repair of vehicle paintwork are identified
   • Work instructions, rectification reports and quality standards are obtained and confirmed
   • Spray painting tools, equipment and materials are identified, prepared and checked for correct operation
2. Assess paintwork defects
   • Vehicle body panels and components are inspected to confirm extent and nature of paint defect
   • Damaged or defective paintwork is assessed and a repair plan developed and confirmed
3. Rectify paintwork defects
   • Defective areas are prepared
   • Surrounding areas are protected from repair activities
   • Paint defects are rectified in line with vehicle specifications and workplace quality standards
   • Paint drying method is selected and applied
   • Repaired vehicle is prepared for final inspection and returned to production sequence
4. Complete work processes
   • Work area is cleaned, and materials disposed of or recycled according to workplace procedures
   • Tools and equipment are cleaned, checked and stored according to workplace procedures
   • Faulty equipment is identified, tagged and reported to supervisor
   • Workplace documentation is completed according to workplace procedures
