Elements and Performance Criteria

Relevant personnel must include at least one of the following:

client

Compliance requirements must include:

commonwealth, state and territory legislation relating to moving waste using loadshifting equipment, including:

environmental protection

hazardous substances and dangerous goods

industry codes

work health and safety.

Visual checks of equipmentmust include checks to identify:

Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also move waste using loadshifting equipment on two separate occasions.

While moving waste, the person must:

follow manufacturer specifications and comply with regulatory and legal requirements to:

clean and maintain equipment and attachment including conducting service checks, as specified in the range of conditions

conduct pre-operational visual checks of the loadshifting equipment to confirm correct function and operation

conduct pre-start, start-up, park and shutdown procedures

load, move and unload waste within safe operational limits and capacity of equipment

operate and drive equipment in a safe and efficient manner, and modifying operating techniques to meet changing work conditions

select and fit attachments required to secure loads

continuously monitor the work environment to identify hazards and risks and ensure safety of people, plant and equipment

load and unload waste using loading methods, as specified in the range of conditions

stack or house loads in designated areas

follow organisational procedures relating to loadshifting equipment.


Knowledge Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

equipment and attachments which may be required to load, move and unload waste

hazards and risks associated with moving waste using loadshifting equipment

licencing requirements relating to loadshifting equipment

organisational policies and procedures and regulatory and legal requirements relating to using load shifting equipment

types, streams and characteristics of waste including hazardous and dangerous waste

waste disposal and recovery routes

waste non-conformances and contaminants.
