Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

provide written and oral information to a work group about work health and safety (WHS) legislation, codes of practice, and organisational policies, procedures and programs

identify and report on existing and potential hazards in the work area

monitor and report on existing risk control measures, including identified inadequacies

investigate hazardous events according to organisational procedures

identify WHS training needs and implement training for a work group

complete and store WHS records according to legal and organisational requirements

produce a portfolio of relevant documentation to demonstrate achievement of the unit requirements (including information distributed to workers, records kept, checklists and reports.)

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.


Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

identify all applicable WHS legislation and codes of practice

describe the hierarchy of control, including the preferred order of risk control measures

outline potential hazards associated with equipment and materials used in the workplace

explain the relevance of other management systems for WHS

explain why levels of literacy and communication levels in the workforce need to be considered when providing information about WHS

explain the role of the supervisor regarding implementation of WHS policies and procedures

explain why WHS training is important

list and describe available information sources about WHS.
