Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locate and apply relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to provide and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to coordinate work activities

operating emergency communication systems

demonstrates completion of implementing underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

providing support to others responsible for system activities

implementing the allocation and installation of resources

implementing training plans and ongoing capability assessments

implementing the incident "initial assessment process"

implementing incident communication systems and procedures

implementing emergency response and evacuation plans

implementing procedures for monitoring, recording and reporting on emergency

implementing procedures for the collection, analysis and validation of emergency preparedness and response data

implementing training plans

implementing incident management action plans

implementing post-incident action plans


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in, applying the implement underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems through:

audit and review processes and techniques

training and assessment principles

training systems

emergency response and evacuation planning processes and techniques

structure of emergency procedures guidelines

intervention and control techniques for heating, fires, explosions, outburst, or inrushes

understanding the effects of hot and humid atmospheres

escape strategies and technology

mine environmental risks and controls

equipment requirements for different types of emergency

call-out procedures

the roles of external agencies

the structure, role and responsibilities of the Incident Control

the trigger points to initiate emergency response to alarms

guidance systems and markers

site emergency plans

the types of adverse environmental conditions

the types of hazards and incidents on a mine site

debriefing process
