Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan assembly/dismantling
   • Job hazards are identified and required action is taken to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards
   • Level as is possible and unobstructed site is selected to assemble/dismantle boom and/or jib
   • Plan for crane assembly and dismantling is developed in accordance with appropriate Australian Standard, other statutory regulations, licensing requirements and manufacturer specifications
2. Assemble/dismantle boom or jib
   • Equipment, including personal protective equipment, is assembled and used as appropriate for task requirements
   • Plan for assembly or dismantling of boom/jib is carried out in accordance with manufacturer specifications, appropriate Australian Standards and other relevant statutory regulations and guides
   • All connections on boom and jib pendants and rope anchorages are checked before boom is raised, to ensure they are in good order, tight and secure
   • Documentation is completed in accordance with workplace procedures

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards applying relevant legislation and workplace procedures communicating effectively with others completing relevant documentation interpreting and following operational instructions and prioritising work monitoring condition of equipment monitoring work activities in terms of planned schedule operating and adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with workplace operating procedures reading and interpreting relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs selecting and using required personal protective equipment (PPE) conforming to industry and work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) standards working collaboratively with others working systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods or equipment.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

application of relevant Australian Standards, codes of practice and legislative requirements defects that may be identified when assembling and dismantling a boom/jib and appropriate action that should be taken guidelines relating to the safe use of machinery and equipment hazard management consistent with the principle of hierarchy of control with elimination, substitution, isolation and engineering control measures being selected before safe working practices and PPE high risk work licence requirements mobile crane and hoist applications, capacities, configurations, safety hazards and control mechanisms operational procedures for crane and hoist crews concerning assembling and dismantling booms and jibs on lattice boom mobile cranes operational work systems and equipment relevant road rules, regulations, permit and licence requirements for mobile crane assembly and dismantling relevant WHS/OHS and environmental procedures and regulations.
