Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare to repair component.
- OHS procedures for a given work area are obtained and understood through established routines and procedures.
- Established OHS risk control measures and procedures in preparation for the work are followed.
- Safety hazards which have not previously been identified are reported and advise on risk control measures are sought from the work supervisor.
- The nature of repair work is obtained from documentation or from work supervisor to establish the scope of work to be undertaken.
- Advice is sought from the work supervisor to ensure the work is coordinated effectively with others.
- Sources of materials that may be required for the work are established in accordance with established routines and procedures.
- Tools, equipment and testing devices needed to carry out the work are obtained and checked for correct operation and safety.
- Appropriate machine is selected, checked for safety and prepared for any necessary machining operation.
- Cutting tools are selected, sharpened and set up for correctly for each particular machining operation.
- Repair components.
- Established OHS risk control measures and procedures for carrying out the work are followed.
- Circuits/machines/plant are checked as being isolated where necessary in strict accordance OHS requirements and procedures.
- Component being machined is positioned and clamped appropriately.
- Machining is carried out safely and to suit the component and material being machined.
- Appropriate measurements are taken to ensure repairs comply with technical standards and job specifications and requirements.
- Components are repaired to comply with technical standards and job specifications and requirements.
- Established methods for dealing with unexpected situations are discussed with appropriate person or persons and documented.
- Unexpected situations are dealt with safely and with the approval of an authorised person.
- Ongoing checks of the quality of repair work are undertaken in accordance with established procedures.
- Repairs are carried out efficiently without unnecessary waste of materials and energy and damage to apparatus, circuits, the surrounding environment or services.
- Complete work and report.
- OHS work completion risk control measures and procedures are followed.
- Work area is cleaned and made safe in accordance with established procedures.
- Fits are made to verify that repaired component conforms to requirements.
- Work completion is documented and an appropriate person or persons notified in accordance with established procedures.
