Element: Inspect, clean and maintain facilities/areas
Carry out regular inspections to identify potential hazards/problems in the work area according to workplace procedures and standards
Clean and maintain areas and amenities in the work environmentto required standards in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation
Store and handle chemicals safely according to directions, Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), health regulations and organisation guidelines
Dispose of wastes and dangerous chemicals in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), health regulations and organisation guidelines

Remove graffiti and chewing gum, as soon as possible, using the correct cleaning agent
Display notices which warn clients of potentially unsafe areas, resulting from cleaning, clearly and correctly
Demonstrate use of correct clothing/equipment /materials and work methods
Use cleaning agents as specified, using the recommended dosages/solution concentrations and chemicals and demonstrate handling them with care
Clean cleaning materials, tools and equipment and return to the correct storage location

Remove spillages, breakages and waste promptly and safely to the correct place, with minimum inconvenience to clients and staff
Maintain lockers, baskets, cubicles and other clothing storage facility areas in a clean and tidy place

Critical aspects of evidence to be considered

Assessment of this unit of competence will usually include observation of processes and procedures, oral and/or written questioning on required knowledge and skills and consideration of required attitudes
Where performance is not directly observed and/or is required to be demonstrated over a "period of time" and/or in a "number of locations", any evidence should be authenticated by colleagues, supervisors, clients or other appropriate persons
