Implement an environmental management plan


Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to interpret requirements of an organisational environmental management plan and effectively implement it.

It applies to individuals who are responsible for sustainability, either as their primary duty or as a part of a work role.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare to implement environmental management plan

1.1 Access and interpret plan and relevant compliance documentation to determine process for implementation

1.2 Prepare schedule for implementation process

1.3 Identify required resources for the implementation in accordance with the schedule

1.4 Identify roles, responsibilities and training needs of individuals and work teams

2. Implement and monitor the environmental management plan

2.1 Communicate implementation process to staff

2.2 Allocate roles and responsibilities, and arrange required training

2.3 Execute implementation process in accordance with schedule

2.4 Provide on-going support to those conducting the plan's activities

2.5 Establish and apply procedures for monitoring activities against achievement targets and adjust resources as necessary

3. Review implementation process

3.1 Review implementation results in accordance with organisational requirements

3.2 Amend process as a result of review or other organisational changes

3.3 Document, maintain and store environmental management records according to organisational requirements

Evidence of Performance

Evidence of the ability to:

interpret an environmental plan to establish underpinning organisational and legislative requirements

prepare an implementation process schedule that incorporates resource requirements and meets organisational and legislative obligations

communicate individual roles and responsibilities to staff

address training and support needs

implement and monitor the schedule against required outcomes

review results and prepare required documentation.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.


Evidence of Knowledge

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

outline organisational and legislative requirements in relation to environmental management

explain methods used to identify and address training needs

describe how resource requirements are identified

explain methods for creating and communicating schedules

explain how to monitor, review and record results of the implementation process.


Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the sustainability field of work and include access to:

relevant legislation and workplace policies and procedures

interaction with others

case studies or, where possible, real situations.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
