Application
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to carry out routine maintenance of swimming pools and spas. It includes preparing for routine swimming pool and spa maintenance; carrying out routine maintenance; assessing hazards, including pool and spa safety barriers; and completing maintenance activities.
The unit supports the work of those engaged in servicing domestic, commercial and public swimming pools and spas. It applies to entry-level swimming pool and spa technicians.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of endorsement.

3.2. | Work area is restored to original condition and checked for safety hazards, waste is disposed of, and tools and equipment are cleaned and stored. | ||
3.3. | Malfunctions, faults, wear or damage to swimming pool or spa, and environs, tools and equipment are reported for repair or replacement. | ||
3.4. | Information is provided to client on compliance of swimming pool or spa and environs with safety legislation. | ||
3.5. | Work completion documentation is prepared and securely maintained. |
Evidence of Performance
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.
The person must also safely demonstrate the routine maintenance of one swimming pool and one spa.
In doing the above, the person must:
locate, interpret and apply information, standards and specifications relating to the maintenance of swimming pools and spas
apply safety requirements throughout the work sequence, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing
carry out the maintenance activities on pool or spa environs, including identifying faults and undertaking routine repairs in line with manufacturer instructions and client and enterprise requirements
report complex faults and repair requirements to supervisor
restore work area to original condition and check swimming pool or spa and environs for safety hazards
ensure that waste is disposed of and tools and equipment are cleaned and stored in line with work health and safety (WHS) and enterprise requirements.

Assessor requirements
As a minimum, assessors must satisfy the assessor requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) current at the time of assessment.
