Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake complex electronic imposition.
It applies to individuals who work in the graphic pre-press sector of the printing and graphic arts industry. The individual takes responsibility for meeting job specifications with a minimum delay in workflow.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Evidence of Performance
Evidence of the ability to:
produce TWO complex impositions that best meet job specifications including identification of printing process, substrate surface and size
transfer the underlying skill of solving complex technical problems of imposition across the design and pre-press sectors to conform to brief specifications
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
identify using examples of how subsequent printing processes or electronic output affect imposition

describe the difference between saddle stitch and perfect binding
explain the purpose of head margins
explain the difference between sheetwise and work and turn
Preparation of data
explain trapping requirements that apply to specific jobs
list considerations when saving a PostScript file
name requirements of an imposition set up document
Use of imposition program
describe installation of fold and cut marks
explain how creep settings are nominated
explain creep and bottling
Output techniques
explain the need for a server signature to be available to the output station
identify the technique used to verify pictures and fonts are available
explain the purpose of a mock-up
Information sources
identify manuals, safety and other documentation relevant to this task, their location and the information included in them
identify other sources of available information.
Assessment Conditions
Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the Pre-Press field of work and include access to special purpose tools, equipment and industry software packages.
Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
