This unit covers the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively research and evaluate new processes and products within the medical grade footwear sector.

Application

This unit applies to activities associated with:

researching and evaluating new processes and products within the medical grade footwear sector

monitoring patient and condition trends that may require reporting and further research

Significant judgement is required in planning, design, technical or supervisory activities related to products and processes. Work may be conducted in small to large scale enterprises and may involve individual and team activities.

This unit is applied according to OHS and workplace practices of the enterprise, which may include:

This unit requires the application of skills associated with communication to consult with relevant personnel across a range of issues, undertake and document research on global trends and practices affecting medical grade footwear, analyse information and prepare and present data and information to relevant health professionals at seminars and conferences.

Planning and organising, problem solving and initiative and enterprise are applied in research and required to define manufacturing capabilities and develop strategy plan and critical path plan. Teamwork skills are also used to contribute to strategic planning and share research findings with others. Learning is applied throughout the unit in research processes. Technology is applied through this unit when using computers for research purposes.

1.1 Global tends are researched and forecast in relation to processes and products

1.2 Developments in technology are investigated to ensure all possibilities are considered

2 Identify manufacturing capabilities or implications

2.1 Manufacturing capabilities are defined in consultation with relevant personnel on issues such as human resources, materials, financial restraints, equipment capabilities, timelines and efficiency

2.2 Options or requirements for use of external resources to undertake part of the work are determined when defining production capabilities

3 Contribute to strategic planning

3.1 Parameters are clarified, in consultation with production development, sales and marketing team, management and client where required

3.2 A strategy plan and critical path plan is developed, when necessary

3.3 Constraints are identified and taken into account when formulating the strategic plan

4 Undertake medical grade footwear research

4.1 Trends in patient profiles and medical grade footwear conditions are monitored and analysed

4.2 Research results are recorded in a manner that allows for ease of retrieval and later comparative study

4.3 Trends and analyses are reported to appropriate agencies, professional associations, government departments, other health professionals and seminars and conferences as appropriate

5 Prepare reports and presentations

5.1 Relevant information is identified and compiled; data is checked when required

5.2 Research reports are prepared for presentation to conferences and seminars

5.3 Other reports and presentations are prepared in accordance with workplace procedures
