2. Balance outfit

2.1. Identify the benefits of matching rod, reel and terminal tackle.

2.2. Balance rod to reel and match line class to rod and reel, according to the requirements for line selection, relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

2.3. Select additional equipment that may be required to complete tackle balancing and apply correct use for a specific type of outfit.

3. Apply casting techniques

3.1. Apply safety procedures to ensure safety of self and others prior to casting according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

3.2. Identify spool actions for different types of reel.

3.3. Determine fly casting techniques and situations where each technique is used.

3.4. Apply appropriate fly casting technique according to the situation, relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

3.5. Determine the use of different parts of a reel and apply in casting.

3.6. Hold rod and reel correctly and apply casting technique according to type of outfit to achieve distance, accuracy and efficiency.

4. Repair and maintain outfit

4.1. Identify outfit service and maintenance requirements and demonstrate routine maintenance and service of tackle outfit according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

4.2. Clean outfits while fishing according to organisational policies and procedures.

4.3. Repair rods, reels, lures and tackle in the field according to relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures.
