1. Prepare for cable modification and cutover

1.1 Obtain relevant legislation, codes, client practices, regulations and standards for given work

1.2 Obtain project plan from appropriate personnel and use it to scope work

1.3 Arrange for site access according to local government and other authority requirements

1.4 Inspect site to develop a work health and safety (WHS) plan and notify appropriate personnel of identified safety hazards

1.5 Determine cable route and type of cable from project plan, and identify and avoid other services

1.6 Determine large size cable handling and support facilities

1.7 Obtain plant, tools, safety equipment and material to perform tasks safely and efficiently

1.8 Prepare implementation plan with cutover tasks based on identified nature of job and seek client approval, if required

1.9 Notify client and network carrier of proposed cutover details and proposed disruption to services

1.10 Undertake additional preparatory non-jointing work, as required, according to client practices and site conditions

1.11 Coordinate labour required for remote cutover of large size cable

2. Joint and cutover cable

2.1 Follow WHS and environmental requirements for given work

2.2 Notify appropriate personnel of cable pressure and equipment alarms

2.3 Prepare joint enclosure and jointing cabinet for cutover cable entry, jointing activities and entry port enclosure sealing

2.4 Set up jointing machines and jigs for jointing

2.5 Joint cable according to jointing sequence, materials, joint type, location, and client practices and manufacturer’s guidelines and to meet service level agreements (SLAs)

2.6 Test cable for performance, rectify and rectify any faults relating to cutover according to location, materials available and client practice

2.7 Seal all joints according to cable type, location, and enterprise and manufacturer’s guidelines

3. Arrange cables and secure site

3.1 Arrange cables in jointing chamber or cabinet according to client practices

3.2 Recover obsolete materials and return to appropriate point for disposal

3.3 Restore siteaccording to client practices and other authority requirements

4. Complete project documentation

4.1 Complete reports on cutover installation, and design amendments to reflect existing cable layout, according to client practices

4.2 Notify appropriate personnel of completion of cutover and obtain sign off
